those born at less than 28 weeks are classified as extremely preterm, while those born between 28 to 32 weeks are considered very preterm. The lower the gestational age, the higher the likelihood of encountering significant health problems. Preterm infants often present with various immediate complications such as respiratory distress syndrome, due to underdeveloped lungs, as well as issues related to their fragile circulatory and gastrointestinal systems. They may also be at risk for hypothermia, hypoglycemia, and jaundice. Beyond immediate health concerns, preterm infants are at higher risk for long-term developmental challenges. They might experience delays in cognitive, motor, and language skills as they grow, along with increased susceptibility to conditions like cerebral palsy, vision problems, and hearing deficits.
