American ways
In the United States, there are specific behaviors related to responding to the death of someone. Americans
* send sympathy cards or a short letter.
* say, `I was very sorry to hear about (the name of person)`
* send flowers to the funeral home or to the individual (for family members, colleagues, etc).
Most funerals occur about three days after the death of a family members. It takes time to prepare the body, and there is often a viewing of the body.
Viewing of the body : Normally, bodies are taken to funeral homes to be prepared for burial. Then, the bodies are embalmed. The family buys a casket from the funeral home to bury the body in. The family brings special clothing to dress the deceased in. Then, the body in its casket is shown for people who want to come to the funeral home and see it.
At the funeral home will be a visitor`s book for mourners to sign. After the funeral, the family writes thank you notes to the visitors.
